Venice is a beautiful and unique city! During the day it's exciting and busy and at night very romantic, of course. :) We only stayed in Venice for one day and a night but I think it actually ended up being enough for us to be able to see the main sights and enjoy the atmosphere. When we arrived (our train from Paris was 5 hours late!!! Thats a story for another day!) we went straight to our hotel and settled in. By the way, our hotel choices have just gotten better and better. We love the Venice hotel and feel lucky to have had some great stays seeing as how we just picked hotels off the internet on hotels.com. We read a lot of customer reviews and are very happy with it. Anyway, so after we arrived so late we went right out to see the Grand Canal and San Marco square. Venice has those water ways down to an art! The taxi's and bus's on the water are very efficient and easy to use. Although, they don't mind bumping into the docks and other boats at almost every stop. :) I suppose it's a little easier to stop a car taxi then a boat taxi. It was fun and exciting to ride the boats and see the buildings on the Grand Canal. We stopped at San Marco square and visited St. Marks Basilica. Another huge and amazing cathedral. Walking around San Marco square was incredible. So much to see and of course some great shopping. The Italians no how to shop!! Some items we picked up are beautiful locally made scarfs and of course Venetian glass. The Rialto Bridge is very neat as well. We also stopped at a lot of these spots at night for even more amazing views. I wish our camera took better night photos. Most of our night ones don't really display the romance and beauty. The Rialto Bridge- very famous and lots of shopping.
The Doge's Palace - This is right in San Marco square next to the Basilica. The Doge (dohzh) Palace was the home of the ruling duke and the seat of the Venetian government for 400 years. It was built to show off the power and wealth of the Republic. And they definitely accomplished their goal. It was over the top, a little gothic, but incredible in it's detail and decorating.

We're really ok that your camera doesn't take good night shots of the "romance" - you can keep those to yourself!
so maybe I need to add Italy to my list of "I'd like to go to...someday" list. Great pictures!! :)
